Legal Services
Maxwell-Gunter has a base legal office to serve active duty members, retirees and family members. The Maxwell Legal Office offers legal assistance to the following categories of beneficiaries: 1) Active duty military members 2) Retired military members 3) Reserve and Guard members on active duty 4) Family members of any of the above, including un-remarried former spouses, with valid ID cards. 5) Foreign military members and their dependents. The legal office can provide assistance with:
- Power of Attorney
- Notary Service
- Basic Will
- Living Will
- Referrals for other legal matters
- Information on other legal matters (bankruptcy, Soldiers/Sailors Relief Act, etc.)
Hours of Operation
Legal assistance attorneys are available to advise members on your personal, civil legal matters. Legal assistance is conducted on a first come, first serve walk-in basis for active duty members and their dependents Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. The legal office also offers notary service to all eligible beneficiaries on a walk-in basis Monday through Friday during normal duty hours. Legal assistance appointments are available at Gunter Annex every other Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Services Not Provided
Please note, legal assistance attorneys are advisors only. An Air Force legal assistance attorney cannot represent members in court, or in an administrative hearing. Legal assistance attorneys cannot offer legal advice on criminal issues, official Air Force matters (such as promotions, assignments, or administrative actions), or matters involving your personal business (except Soldier's and Sailor's Civil Relief Act issues). In these cases, or in other cases requiring specialized knowledge of particular areas of the law, the legal office may recommend consultation with a civilian attorney.
Household Claims Services
Legal assistance for moving claims is limited to advice or forwarding your completed claims to the shipper. Under the new moving rules all claims are handled directly by the member with the moving company.
