Recreational Facilities
There are many events and attractions in this area. There are major league and minor league sports teams in the NY/NJ area. There are also many special events held in the neighboring towns and cities such as festivals and carnivals.There are many recreational activities in this area. Snow skiing is only a short drive away, as well as water skiing on some off post lakes. There are also many parks to picnic or hike in. Amusement Parks are also close by with Action Park, Six Flags Great Adventure and many small parks for younger children. There are many activities on-post to fill your leisure time and ask at Community Recreation Branch to find all the leisure activities that can be found off post!The Picatinny Youth Services Program sponsors many clubs and social groups in conjunction with its affiliation with the Boys and Girls Club of America and the 4-H Club.
Morris Knolls High School, the school that the Picatinny teens attend, has an extensive list of clubs and other activities avaialbe for its students.Total Fitness offers a variety of activities within the confines of the gym and also outside. Offered in the gym are free weights, nautilus, and cardio equipment. Inside courts are available or basketball, racquetball and tennis. Outside activities and or courts and trails are managed by sports facility personnel include street hockey, sand volleyball, basketball, fitness trails, hiking trails and biking trails.
The sports facility sponsors a men's and ladies softball league and a men's basketball league pick-up games are available for those who play soccer and sand volleyball. Special tournaments include 3 on 3 basketball, 5K or 10K runs, bench press competition and an Army 10 miler where the best 5 or 6 times represent Picatinny in a run in Washington, DC.The Chapel offers worship services for different faiths: Protestant - Sunday 1000 at the Chapel Catholic - Sunday 0830 at the Chapel Jewish - Wednesdays 1200 at Bldg 12 Conference Room
Some activities sponsored by the Chapel include: Counseling, Bible Study, Pot Luck Dinners, Picnics, Easter Egg Hunt, Advent Wreath Making, Vacation Bible School and Teen Retreat.
