Travel Planning
Temporary Lodging Reservations
If you plan to stay at the NAS Meridian Navy Gateway Inns & Suites (NGIS) and Combined Bachelor Housing (CBH) when you first arrive on base, you should make your reservations as early as possible. Reservations are accepted up to 30 days in advance, but you should call to confirm your reservations 3 days prior to arrival. Temporary lodging is usually available, but special circumstances (such as NOSC Drill Weekends) can cause a shortage of rooms. Call 601-679-4019, 601-679-4018, or DSN 312-637-2186 to make reservations.
Command Sponsorship
Concurrent travel is when family member travel is performed at the same time the service member travels. Concurrent travel is allowed at the command's discretion. At NAS Meridian, "A" school students are typically the only service members not allowed concurrent travel (since they are at NAS Meridian for 20 weeks or less). If a service member decides to move family members when concurrent travel has not been authorized, the command assumes no financial responsibility for moving or housing those family members. The service member's entitlements will not change, and he/she will be responsible for all costs associated with moving and housing the family throughout the tour.
Reporting Procedures
Staff and Student Pilots
Reporting staff and student pilots may check in with NAS Security Dispatch after hours to stop leave charging, but must report to their command Pass Liaison Representative during normal working hours to complete processing. Go to the Administrative Department of the command to which you are reporting. Normal working hours are Monday through Friday, 7 am to 3:30 pm.
Enlisted Students
All enlisted students will report to the NTTC Quarterdeck, regardless of check-in time. MATSS-1 "A" school check-in is a 24-hour operation in Building 201. Check-in for NTTC "A" school students operates at the NTTC Quarterdeck in Building 360.
Naval Reservists
Naval Reservists assigned to the Naval Operational Support Center (NOSC) are required to muster with their unit mustering petty officer no later than 7:00 a.m. on the first drill day, or with the NOSC CDO if performing drills on a normal workday.
NAS and Tenant Command Personnel
All NAS and tenant command personnel must check in with the Fleet & Family Support Center to schedule a seat to attend Welcome Aboard, an indoctrination program designed to orient personnel to relevant services and requirements of NAS Meridian, the City of Meridian, and Lauderdale County.
24 Hour Arrival
There is a 24-hour central check-in service at the front desk of the Ensign Jesse L. Brown Memorial Combined Bachelor Quarters, Building 218.
What to do if you get married en route?
If you get married before you PCS, you must inform your commander and follow the procedures exactly as you are given them. The military will not pay for travel and housing of your spouse if you do not follow proper procedures.
