Legal Assistance
Legal Services
The Department of the Navy legal assistance program provides free attorney assistance to eligible clients regarding personal civil legal matters. Legal assistance is not separately funded; the program is authorized, not mandated, by Congress. Accordingly, all legal assistance services are provided "as available" and may vary depending on resource availability. Active Duty are given priority.
The legal assistance office supports a vigorous command preventive law program through education and outreach efforts. This is accomplished by participating in command training seminars and conducting will/living will/power of attorney visits to various commands. Some selected reserve units qualify for these services.
