Pre-School
There is currently one pre-school program offered at WSMR. It is offered through White Sands Elementary School and it is for Developmentally Delayed Children, DD-Pre is the common term used out here.
In order to have your child tested to see if they qualify, you can contact the school directly and ask to speak to Michele Marshall, she is the DD-Pre teacher or you can contact the Child Development Center and they offer a free screening for children that may qualify them for DD-PRE. The screening is called the Denver's Test.
The Thomas J.P. Jones Child Development Center is accredited with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). All staff working directly with children undergoes background checks and participate in initial and on-going training. Training areas include but are not limited to, First Aid, CPR, Safety, Health, Child Development, and Child Abuse Prevention, working with families and caring for special needs children.
Elementary
White Sands Elementary is located at Bldg 290. Here grades preschool through 5th grade attends class. White Sands Elementary offers a back to school holiday each year to let the students see their classes, meet their teachers and walk around to each of the booths and see what is happening on post during the school year. Middle School
White Sands Middle School is located in the same area as the Elementary School, Bldg 290. White Sands Middle School offers grades 6th - 8th a great academic opportunity. High School
HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
High School Graduation requirements: 29 Units; 4 in English, 3 in Math, 2 in Science (1 Lab), 3 in Social Studies, 1 in PE, 1 in Communication Skills, and 15 in electives. Students MUST pass a competency exam in five areas of study. If a student wishes to complete graduation requirements in less than four years, summer classes can also be taken.
ATHLETICS
The Las Cruces Public Schools sponsors a comprehensive athletic program for all students enrolled in our high schools. Student participation in interscholastic athletics is governed by rules and regulations established by the Las Cruces Public Schools and the New Mexico Activities Association.
Prior to participating in any practice session, in-season or off-season workout session, summer workout session, or Athletic Period, each student-athlete MUST:
1. Be officially enrolled in the high school in his or her designated Attendance
Area or obtain a school district Open Enrollment Transfer to the school of his
Or her choice.
2. Attend the high school in his or her designated Attendance Zone or Open
Enrollment choice.
3. Be eligible in all areas of athletic eligibility according to the rules and
guidelines of the New Mexico Activities Association and the Las Cruces Public

Onate High school is not located on post. For those students requiring transportation, you must ride a bus. There is also an activity bus that runs throughout the school year to transport students to and from school sponsored events such as athletic events and after school practices.
