Installation Activities:
WSMR Community Activities:
WSMR offers many special events for families such as Organizational day, Safety Day, Oktoberfest, the Art Auction and the traditional Army vs. Navy day. All of these days promote family togetherness, safety and a great atmosphere along with local food booths and beverages.
Sporting Events:
There are a wide variety of activities to do here at WSMR throughout the year. WSMR offers a very scenic golf course at the base of the Organ Mountains. There is also a bowling alley which offers leagues throughout the year and hosts karaoke on Friday nights. Bell Gym offers several fitness classes such as yoga and spin in addition to the many sporting leagues throughout the year. For those adventurous types there is also mountain biking trail, a variety of hiking trails and camping as well.
Religious Activities:
There are several religious services on the weekend that serve a variety of denominations. The Chapel hosts a Two Catholic services as well as religious education classes. They also offer a Baptist service and well with Vacation Bible School in the summer.
Military Events:
In addition to all of the great events listed above, WSMR also holds a much honored TRI-SERVICE banquet to honor the men and women of this post. The TRI-SERVICE banquet is very unique to this post and honors those service members from the ARMY, Air force and Navy who have been selected as Senior and Junior Service members of the year. A banquet is held in their honor in which the Community of Las Cruces supports and WSMR honor these individuals.
There is also a White Sands ball that is held every year and is a formal occasion for all military members and their spouses.
Las Cruces Community Activities:
While Surrounding Communities may include, Alamogordo, El Paso, TX, Mesilla and Juarez Mexico. Many people who live at White Sands travel to Las Cruces for many of their shopping and various other activities.
Community Activities:
There are so many community events that occur on Las Cruces. The biggest are: Wine tasting festivals, the Down town mall open on Wednesday's and Saturdays, Visiting old Mesilla, Concerts, NMSU events and the ever popular Renaissance Festival and Craft Faire. If you are interested in one particular event look at the Las Cruces events page on the internet.
Sporting Events:
The NMSU Aggies have the ball when it comes to sporting events. They offer great seats for Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Baseball, Softball and Track and Field. There are also great local sporting clubs such as softball, soccer, and tennis that family can become involved in. There is an activity for any season and any member of the family!
Religious Events:
There are several local churches for various denominations of religious beliefs. With vast choices, finding your own preference may be difficult. The best way to decide is to look up in a local phone book and find one that is right for you.
