- There are so many activities for each and every military base that we’re asking for your help and listing them. So please tell us what you think the next person PCSing to your location should know about activities on or off base for you and your family.
- There are a variety of events throughout the year in Sumter and surrounding areas.
- BOATING AND FISHING: Just 25 miles from Sumter, boating, fishing, golf and tennis are offered at the Santee Cooper Lakes area. Rated among the top three in America, the area is world famous for its sports fishing over the 70,000 acres of water and 450 miles of shoreline.
- IRIS FESTIVAL - The festival celebrates the annual blooming of the iris with Sumter opening its doors to visitors from throughout the world in a three-to-four day festival featuring an array of community events. More than 6 million iris are planted.
- OUTDOOR SPORTS AND ACTIVITIES: Recreational Services Dillon Park offers more than 200 acres of recreational activities as well as a one-mile walking trail.
- Organized sports run throughout the year both on base and in the local community.
- YOUTH CENTER: Contact Youth Center for details on programs and registration fees. Contact the Chapel for specific programs for children and/or families. Contact Youth Center for scheduled special events.
- HUNTING: Hunting seasons are regulated by the state, the area is a hunter's paradise. Everyone is encouraged to be a part of the fun at Shaw AFB by participating in sporting events, outdoor recreation, entertainment, crafts and other high energy and enriched programs.
- FALL: Fall Fiesta - Held in lovely Swan Lake Gardens annually during the third weekend of October, the Fall Fiesta celebrates the visual and performing arts. It was begun in 1977 to showcase local amateur and professional artists, as well as works by the young people of the area.
- Octoberfest Southern Style - A one-day festival held the second Saturday in October annually.
- WINTER: December Events - Swan Lake Fantasy of Lights: designed into images by talented artists, thousands of lights sparkle on the trees and around the lake at the world famous Swan Lake Gardens during the month of December.
- Holiday Tour of Homes: A tradition in Sumter. Selected homes are specially decorated by the Council of Garden Clubs and opened to the public for enjoyment and viewing.
- Christmas Arts and Crafts Show: Hosted by the Sumter Crafter's Guild.
