Legal Services
The mission of the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate (SJA) is the delivery of all legal services to the Commander, 23rd Wing, Air Combat Command. Legal support is also provided to the 479th Flying Training Group (AETC) and the 820th Security Forces Group (ACC).
One of the primary responsibilities of the SJA is to provide legal advice to commanders regarding military justice implemented under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). The office also helps military members, retirees, and their family members with personal civil legal problems.
Types of Services/Elements
SJA accomplishes this mission through three Elements/Services:
JAC/Civil Law
The mission of the Civil Law Element is to provide support for AWFC units in numerous areas including contract law, civilian employee labor law, ethics, and operations law. This Element is also responsible for the legal assistance program that provides legal advice to active duty military members and retirees addressing personal, civil legal issues.
JAD/Claims
The Claims Element is responsible for processing monetary claims filed against the government and asserting claims in favor of the government. The vast majority of the claims workload is derived from government-paid moves, medical care costs, and automobile accidents.
JAM/Military Justice
The mission of the Military Justice Element is to screen disciplinary matters. This includes reviewing evidence and making recommendations to commanders about the appropriate disposition of disciplinary issues.
