- Child Development Center (CDC)
- The F.E. Warren CDC offers quality, affordable and conveniently located care. Their goal is to provide closely supervised play and developmentally appropriate activities for young children. Programs are available for the convenience of parents who need to be away from their children for short or long periods of time during the day.
- Professional Child Development Center staff members are available to provide a safe and pleasant environment, as well as create a mental and physical developmental program which combines social and educational activities for your child.
- Programs Offered
- The Child Development Center (CDC) receives unannounced inspections conducted by the Air Force Services Agency on an annual basis. The installation currently holds certification from DoD and is also accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs. The CDC provides care and activities for hourly and full day children based on local needs and capabilities. Children ages 6 weeks to 5 years of age to include military and DoD civilian parents may use the center according to Air Force Instruction 34-248.
- Registration
- Parents may request child care by completing the AF Form 2606. When space is available CDC staff will contact the parents for further records. If a child is placed on a waiting list, parents are contacted every other month to inform them of their child's status on the list. In the event that a vacancy occurs the parents will be notified immediately. Upon notification parents will need to provide child's immunization records and complete the AF Form 1181 patron registration form.
- Types of Care
- Hourly Care -- This type of care is short term on a non-regular basis and requires reservations by the Thursday of the prior week. The cost is $3 per hour/2 hour minimum. Hourly care will be provided on a space available basis.
- Full-Day Weekly Care -- Childcare for up to 10 hours per day, 5 days per week.
- Family Child Care Homes -- The use of military housing to provide for a small number of children in a family-type environment. Family child care providers are licensed through the FCC Coordinator.
- Respite Care -- Care is available two times per month. Care can be offered on a Friday evening and Saturday. Certificates must be obtained from commanders, first sergeants, chaplains, supervisors or an agency recognizing the need. Reservations must be made through the CDC.
- The installation has one CDC with a maximum capacity of 168. There are also licensed Family Child Care Homes and Missile Duty Providers. A School Age Program which serves children 6-12 is also located on the installation. The School Age Program provides before and after school and full time summer camp.

- Give Parents a Break Program
- Give Parents a Break is a free child care program for active duty members with children ages 6 weeks to 11 years that are under unique stress. The program is available once per month in 4 hour blocks. You may request a referral from your squadron commander, first sergeant, chaplain, medical professional, Family Advocacy, Airman and Family Readiness Center or the Child Development Center.
- Family Child Care (FCC)
- Family Child Care (FCC) offers an excellent alternative for parents who would like their children cared for in a home setting. Care is provided in military housing as well as off base. Caregivers are licensed by the 90th Mission Support Group Commander and must meet strict Air Force requirements.
- Caregivers are required to complete a 40-hour orientation training class prior to licensing that includes CPR and First Aid certification, 15 Air Force standardized training modules, 24-hours of annual training and passing a comprehensive background check that includes family members.
- FCC providers complete a monthly 17-page self-assessment that ensures the safety, health and well-being of your child or children as well as receive monthly unannounced visits from the FCC Coordinator.
- Providers offer daily activities that promote social, self, creative, physical and cognitive development. Your child or children will receive individualized attention in a small group setting that is warm, caring, nurturing and educational. Referral lists for in-home providers may be obtained from a variety of agencies on base such as the FCC, Child Development Center, A&FRC or Community Support.
- FCC also offers Extended Duty Care, Missile Duty Care, Return Home Care, Air Force Aid PCS Care and Volunteer Care and serves as back-up for Give Parents a Break. Please call 307-773-3317 or DSN 312-481-3317 if you are interested in becoming a provider or for further information on these special programs. Consider giving FCC a try!
- Child Care for PCS Program
- This is a program to benefit families under stress from a PCS move. It is free to the military member and has been made available through the Air Force Aid Society and Family Child Care. AFAS will pay up to 20 hours of child care (per child) in certified FCC homes on base.
- Families with PCS orders of all ranks are eligible to receive a Child Care for PCS Certificate from the Airman and Family Readiness Center for use within 60 days of departure or arrival.
- Special Needs Children
- Children with special needs are accommodated with approval by the base medical advisor. STRIDE Learning Center is a developmental preschool located in the City of Cheyenne and addresses the needs of children 3 - 5 years of age. Eligibility is determined through a developmental evaluation process which includes hearing and vision screenings. The CDC works closely with STRIDE professionals to ensure children are recognized and referred for screening. Services are conducted for those children identified at STRIDE or in some cases can be conducted on sight at the CDC.
