Base Legal Assistance customer service hours are 8:00 a.m. - 11:00, and 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Mon.-Thurs. Notary hours are offered during these same times. Please call 301 342-7510 or DSN 312-342-7510. Hours for Tax Assistance during Tax Season are Monday-Thursday. 8:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.
Eligibility for ServicesActive Duty, Retirees, Reservists on Active Duty, and dependents with a valid ID card are eligible for service. Proper valid military ID is required to receive services. An ID check is conducted at the legal assistance check-in desk.
There is currently no full-time Attorney assigned at NAS Patuxent River. Paralegal services which do not require the consultation of an attorney include:
- General & Special Powers of Attorney documentation preparation
- Name Changes
- Real Estate Powers of Attorney
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is coordinated by NAS, Legal Office.
The forms needed to file a HHG shipment claim can be found at this website. The claims process for Move.mil shipments is the same as for any other government shipment. You have 75 days from the date of delivery to note damages and complete and submit the DDForm1840/1840R thru the Move.mil website. Failure to report loss or damage within 75 days or to properly complete DDForm1840R could jeopardize your claim.
Good record keeping prior to your move and careful observation during your move will make the claims process easier!
