Travel Planning
Members being reassigned to McConnell AFB on PCS orders should make temporary lodging reservations as early in their trip planning as possible. PCS orders have priority in temporary quarters but keep in mind, McConnell is a high traffic area for travelers.
It is common for nearly all conus bases to have Command Sponsorship approval (family accompanied), however, many overseas tours do not have Command Sponsorship. It is highly discouraged to take family members with non-command sponsored tours of duty. Family members do not have medical access, commissary or exchange availability. Additionally all travel costs are the responsibility of the military member.
Inprocessing Procedures
If you arrive by plane you will fly into Wichita Mid-Continent Airport. Make sure you give your sponsor your airline name and arrival time. If you are not met by your sponsor you can find taxi cabs right outside of the terminal.
During normal duty hours, contact your sponsor or your unit upon arrival. If it is after normal duty hours, please report to the 24 hour arrival point which is the Air Capital Inn, Bldg 196. The phone number is 316-612-6999, DSN 312-743-6999. Personnel in this office can also help you get in touch with your sponsor or your orderly room.
Report to your unit orderly room upon arrival at McConnell AFB. Your unit will schedule you for an INTRO briefing. The briefing is held every Tuesday at the Robert J. Dole Community Center on base. It is conducted by your Military Personnel Flight and Airman and Family Readiness Center.
New Team McConnell members will sign in to the base at the front desk of Air Capital Inn (BLDG 196) within 24 hours of arrival in the local area. Members will report to their unit, in uniform, no later than the morning of the first official (Monday-Friday) duty day following sign in at Air Capital Inn. Complete the jump start actions as outlined in the McConnell jump start guide which is included in the packet obtained at Air Capital Inn. Your supervisor will assist you in obtaining the information needed for the Right Start briefing.
Getting Married Enroute
If you get married before you PCS, you must inform your commander and follow the procedures exactly as you are given them. The military will not pay for travel and housing of your spouse if you do not follow proper procedures.
