Child Care

Joint Base Lewis-McChord has an excellent child and youth services program, including accredited centers and certified Family Child Care homes. You can put your child's name on the waiting list by calling 253-966-2977 prior to your arrival at JBLM. Bring shot records to register. Child and Youth and School Services Parent Central office hours are 8:00 am until 4:00 pm, Mon-Fri or by appointment after 4pm.

Child and Youth Services offers a variety of optional child care services to include: On-Sites Child Care for Organizations, Volunteer Child Care in Unit Settings, Parent Education, Resource and Referral for child care services and central registration for all CDS programs.

Eligibility

Active Duty Military Personnel, APF & NAF DoD Civilian Personnel, Reservists and National Guard on active duty or during inactive duty personnel training and DoD Contractors. Retirees are not eligible for Child Care services.

Costs

All fees charged in Child, Youth & School Services comply with the Department of Defense Policy and are standardized throughout the Army. Joint Base Lewis-McChord is considered a "high cost area."

  • Priority 1 - Single/Dual Military or DoD Civilians
  • Priority 2 - Dual Working with Non-DoD Working Spouse
  • Priority 3 - Other eligible families

Respite Care

Child care is provided through the Army Family Covenant for Families of Deployed Soldiers, Wounded Warriors and Fallen Warriors according to Army established mission levels.

Registration

Upon arriving at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, we encourage you to make registration appointments to help reduce long lines and waiting. Call 253-966-2977 or DSN 347-2977 to make an appointment. The following documents are needed to register your child for any CDS program:

  • Your ID Card (Active Duty or Military Family Member ID, DoD Civilian,DoD Government Contractor)
  • Each child's up-to-date immunization records
  • Three emergency points of contact (individuals other than you and your spouse who easily accessible within the local community)
  • Your current end of the month Leave and Earnings Statement (LES) and spouse's pay voucher

Child Development Centers (CDC)

Quality child development programs have been awarded accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Comprehensive programs are available for children 6 weeks - 12 years of age. The curriculum, designed to promote social, physical and intellectual growth in children, emphasizes creative, developmentally appropriate activities and experiences.

Family Child Care (FCC)

The FCC program offers homes certified for childcare in Joint Base Lewis-McChord military housing. Child care is provided for children ages 4 weeks - 12 years of age. All persons who provide child care in government quarters (over ten child hours per week) are required to be certified through this program. This requirement does not apply to the care given to children in the home of or by the parent or guardian. To register call 253-966-2977 or preregister at CYS website click on webtrac.

School Age Services (SAS)

The SAS program offers Before/After school care for children kindergarten through 5th grade. The programs have been awarded accreditation by the Council on Accreditation. Base Policies

Home Alone

Children under 12 years old will not be left alone in government quarters. Children will not be left in the care of anyone less than 13 years old. Children will not be supervised by someone under the age of 17 years old for long periods of time.

Curfew

All family members and guests 12 years old and younger will be in their quarters weekdays at 10:00 pm and weekends 11:00 pm, including holidays, unless accompanied by a parent or responsible adult.

SKIES Unlimited - Instructional Classes: Karate, Gymnastics, Dance, Art, Drama, Music, Piano, Boxing and more, enroll at Parent Central Services 253-966-2977.

Kids on Site (KOS) program - KOS onsite child care at approved locations. Child care for FRG meetings and some Chapel services and programs.

Youth Sports - Soccer, baseball, cross country, basketball, enroll at Parent Central Services 253-966-2977.

HIRED! - Apprenticeship program for ages 15-18.
