Public Schools
There are 501 school districts in the state of Pennsylvania. Five of those school districts are located within 12 miles of the Carlisle Barracks/US Army War College. We are pleased to report that public school systems in the Carlisle area and surrounding communities provide a quality educational experience for school-aged students. Due to the small size of our installation, there are not any public schools located on Post. Information about the Carlisle area school system can be researched below.
Students living on Carlisle Barracks primarily attend:
- Bellaire Elementary School (K-5)
- Hamilton Elementary School (K-5)
- LeTort Elementary School (K-5)
- Wilson Middle School (6-8)
- Lamberton Middle School (6-8)
- Carlisle High School (9-12)
- Carlisle Area School District (CASD)
School Registration Information
Initial registration for all students attending any Carlisle Area District school should be completed online before arrival at the Carlisle Barracks. As soon as you know you are coming to the Army War College begin coordinating with your present counselor and the Carlisle Area School District Student Registrar, 717-240-6800, ext. 17803.
PLEASE NOTE: Call the registrar’s office before going to ensure that someone is in the office to register your students. Parents should hand-carry shot records, school transfer records, birth certificates, and any special paperwork, such as IEPs, standardized test results, letters for college recommendations from teachers & coaches, and course descriptions from your previous school.
The Carlisle School district assigns our (on post) Elementary and Middle School children to certain schools in August. If you have a preference, you can make a specific request when you register your child. Every effort is made to grant your request, but there are no guarantees. The decision will be made on quarters’ assignments, bus schedules, class sizes and number of children per Family. Representatives from the War College are present to insure fairness at the school assignment session. After receiving your Middle School assignment, go to the school and set up the club electives.
Required Information For New Student Registrations
