Child Development Center (CDC)

The philosophy behind our curriculum is that young children learn best by doing. Learning is not just repeating what someone else says but requires active thinking and experimenting to find out how things work and to learn firsthand.

Play provides the foundation for academic or "school" learning. It is the preparation children need before they learn highly abstract symbols such as letters (which are symbols for sound) and numerals (which are symbols for numerical concepts). Play enables us to achieve the key goals of our early childhood curriculum.

Eligibility -- All dependents, ages 6 weeks through kindergarten, of active duty/DOD civilian employees, may use the Child Development Program in accordance with Air Force priorities.

To register for child care at Nellis AFB, please go to Military Child and Youth First.

There are 3 easy steps to follow to "Request for Care":

Give Parents a Break Program/Parents' Night Out

* This program offers child care for families with deployed sponsors or families under stress. Referrals are made by base helping agencies such as the Airman & Family Readiness Center and First Sergeants. This program is funded by Air Force Aid and is offered the first Saturday of each month, for up to 6 hours at the Child Development Center and the Youth Center. Parents are able to take the time to handle personal business, grocery shopping, etc. with a peace of mind that their young ones are being well taken care of.

* In conjunction with Give Parents a Break Night, the Child Development Center (ages 6 wks-5) and Youth Center (ages 5-12) offer Parents' Night Out which is fee based. For more information and registration requirements, contact the appropriate child care center.
