Government Housing
NCBC Gulfport housing is managed by the Balfour Beatty Community Management company. We look forward to welcoming you to your new home at NCBC Gulfport. Our Resident Specialists, with the help of the Navy Family Housing Office, are here to make your application process as seamless as possible. If you are a Non-Active Duty applicant, please contact the Balfour Beatty Communities Management Office directly for assistance.
Balfour Beatty and the Navy Housing Office offer several areas within the neighborhood for living. Visit the web site http://ncbcgulfporthomes.com/neighborhoods/ for a discription of the housing and for a list of amminities.
The Navy Family Housing Office will maintain the referral lists by rank and bedroom size. The Navy Family Housing Office will refer units as they become available. Service members will continue to go to the Navy Family Housing Office to complete their application. The Navy Family Housing Office will determine your entitlement (number of bedrooms) and you will be referred to our Management Office for the actual assignment.
Non-Government Housing
Due to the growing economy and Hurrine Katrina, housing costs are rising. Contact the Base Housing Office to determine your basic allowance for housing (BAH) amount. It is a good idea to schedule an appointment with the Personal Financial Management Counselor at the Fleet and Family Support Center to develop a budget and/or project what you can afford in "off base" housing before making a financial commitment. Basic Allowance Housing was increased in 2005 to help compensate the cost of living off base, however expect to still have out of pocket expenses.
Rental Options
Work with your sponsor to obtain apartment guides and real estate listings, or use Internet resources to research affordable housing. There are numerous housing options close to the base. Apartments are available on a long-term and short-term basis. There are several complexes which offer furnished apartments. The housing office has a "rental partnership" with many complexes in the community offering financial benefits for members.
Housing Referral Office (HRO) --The HRO is your contact for any problems you may encounter such as discrimination complaints, tenant/landlord disputes, or any questions or problems about off-base housing is the HRO. The HRO will provide you a list of rentals with corresponding locator maps and give you information regarding the communities in which the rentals are located. All renters should carry renters insurance against fire, theft and other damages. The property owner's insurance will cover the property but not the renters personal property. Transfer coverage after you arrive. Ask about the availability of a Rental Partnership Program if you are planning to rent.
