Vehicle Registration
The following is required for registration:
- Valid Military ID card
- Current state registration certificate
- Valid state driver’s license
- Minimum insurance (liability $15,000, personal injury $30,000 and $5,000 property damage in any one accident). Policies must include or have appended uninsured motorist coverage.
- An immediate family member may apply for registration if the application form has been signed by the military sponsor.
- When a power of attorney is held by a spouse whose sponsor is overseas, he or she may sign the application for the sponsor.
- Civilian employees, retired military members and other civilians who have authorized registration privileges must apply in person.
Weapons Registration
All military personnel assigned to Parris Island, Marine Corps Air Station or Naval Hospital Beaufort who own firearms of any kind must register them at the Provost Marshal’s Office before bringing them on base. On Parris Island, the PMO is in Building 455. At Naval Hospital Beaufort, visit the security office. For MCAS, visit the Pass and ID Office in Building 2077.
Law Enforcement
Vehicle accidents on a military installation must be promptly reported to military police. All parties concerned and witnesses must remain at the scene until released by competent authority, except when medical attention is necessary to prevent death or prolonged suffering. Dial 911 while at Parris Island/MCAS/NHB to report emergencies, and 843-228-3200 at Parris Island or 843-228-STOP (7867) at MCAS to anonymously report information about crimes. To report criminal acts occurring aboard the Naval Hospital, call 843-228-5327. To report routine items to the military police at Parris Island, dial 843-228-3118/3445, or to the air station at 843-228-7373. The security officer at the hospital can be reached at 843-228-5317. Crimes occurring off the military installations should be reported to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office or to Beaufort City Police by dialing 911.
Traffic Regulations
The speed limit is 25 mph on all bases unless otherwise posted. Parking is authorized in parking spaces only. Radar detectors are prohibited. Seat belts and child car seats are required on and off the Tri-Command bases at all times in accordance with DOD regulations and South Carolina law. The use of cellphones while operating a motor vehicle is prohibited without a hands-free device. Drivers must yield to vehicles displaying visual or audible emergency signals.
