Surviving Norfolk, VA
Well the orders have come once again and you are terrified about the area you are moving to. Don't worry I have everything you will need from a day trip to a weekend get away to just relax.
Norfolk Naval Station is the largest Naval station in the world. With that being said there are a lot of activities going on with ships leaving, flights taking off and feeling sounds of freedom. Everyday there is an average of 275 flights that leave the Norfolk, so getting use to this could take a little but it will all be worth it in the end. Hampton Roads has so much to offer with festivals and things to do you will never be bored.
Entertainment -
Virginia Beach : This is my favorite place EVER! I spent lots of time in VA Beach. With a short 30 minute drive to the beach you wont be disappointed. Every weekend throughout the spring and summer there are always something from festivals to concerts right on the beach. Everyone calls VA beach the driving strip, with that being said there are tons of stores, restaurants and entertainment throughout the strip.
Williamsburg, VA : Are you a thrill seeker or even a history lover? If so this is the place you will never want to leave! Within the town of Williamsburg there is lots to do. Downtown Williamsburg is about an hour and 30 minutes away, but a great place to take family.
Colonial Williamsburg, is a historic site , which was the stomping grounds of the American Revolutionary War. They have recreated parts of the town and the atmosphere where all the workers are dressed 18th century. All of the townspeople act as though they are 18th century, from leather making to cooking.
Another place that is AMAZING to go to is Busch Gardens and Water Country USA. Busch Gardens is an amusement park. They also have every different country in the park; Italy , Germany, England, Ireland, France and more. We always purchased season passes because we loved that we could just get up and go any time we wanted any not have to worry about paying for tickets it was already done. Busch Gardens is definitely the place to go with your family and friends.
Water Country USA is a water park that is about 15 minutes past Busch Gardens. If the beach is not your place on a long hot weekend then this is the place for you. You can find me floating down the lazy river or my husband forcing me down the tallest water slides.
STRIKE YOUR OUT! Who doesn't love baseball games during the spring and summer months? Harbor Park is the way to go. Minor League Baseball team Norfolk Tides start games in April. Minor League Baseball games are my favorite, get a bunch of friends together and enjoy a evening with lots of laughs and maybe even catch a foul ball.
Dining -
Planet Pizza: On the strip in VA Beach strip this is hands down the best pizza place ever. The outside of building has aliens and just socool looking you cant help but go inside. From Pizza of course to subs, you just cant get any better than this place. Once you eat here you will never want to go anywhere else after a long day on the beach or even after going out one night. Don't miss out on your chance going to the best pizza place in VA Beach.
Abby Road Pub: Going to VA Beach for a night out, or even just to get away to have a date night then this is your go to. Abby Road Pub is based off the Beatles and it is also a tavern based restaurant. They serve lots of seafood but also serve american food; the hamburgers are huge! Abby Road Pub serves breakfast if you are looking for one last stop before you leave town. The weekends are full with live music from the 70`s and 80`s.
Toby's Dog House: Not a pizza person and just want a simple dog and brew? The whole restaurant is based off of every type of dog you can think off. Even if you go to Williamsburg and visit for the day and bring your furry friends , this is a pet friendly restaurant with a huge back porch where you can enjoy eating with your furry friend.
Don't worry about exploring everywhere the first weekend; you have 2 years at this duty station right?
