Public Schools

Enid has 11 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 1 high school, 9 private/parochial schools, 1 career technology, and 1 state University and 1 state 2-year college. Eisenhower Elementary School is located within the gates of Vance AFB, but is part of Enid Public Schools.

Enid Public Schools allows intra-district transfers from one school to another as long as class sizes will allow. A transfer request can be completed at the school site or at Central Office, 500 S. Independence, Enid OK.

School boundaries have been carefully defined to adhere to specific requirements. Transfers to other than assigned schools may be requested, but each request must be weighed for compliance to variables such as class sizes. The Housing Referral Office has a large city map which shows school boundaries.

Northwest Enid students attend kindergarten through the 8th grade at Chisholm Elementary School, North of the city. Grades 9 - 12 to Chisholm High School, Northwest of Enid.

Southeast Enid children have kindergarten through sixth grade at Pioneer Pleasantvale Elementary School, East of Enid. Pioneer Pleasantvale High School, southeast of Enid, consists of grades 7-12.

Buses are available for children who live at least two miles from their assigned area school. Children living in base housing who attend Eisenhower Elementary can walk to school. Middle School and High School students are bussed to school. Waukomis, OK (approx 5 miles south of base) busses students from base to Waukomis schools also.

Age requirements for Enid Public Schools

  • Pre-School: Child must be 4 on or before September 1.
  • Kindergarten: Child must be 5 years old on or before 1 September of the school year.

New students must provide birth certificates and immunization records for entry to kindergarten through 12th grade.

Immunization Requirements

  • 4 Year Old Program: 4DPT/DT, 3 Polio, 1MMR, 2 Hepatitis A, 3 Hepatitis B, 1 Varicella (chicken pox)
  • Kindergarten, 1, 2, and 3: 4 DPT/DT (unless the fourth dose as given on or after the fourth birthday), 4 Polio (unless the third dose was given on or after the fourth birthday), 2 MMR, 2 Hepatitis A, 3 Hepatitis B, 1 Varicella (chicken pox)
  • Grades 4 and 5: 5 DPT/DT (unless the fourth as given on or after the fourth birthday), 4 Polio (unless the third dose as given on or after the fourth birthday), 2 MMR

School Meals

Enid Public Schools offers breakfast and lunch at every school site.  The district is committed to providing healthy choices that students will enjoy. Parents can send a check to school to be deposited into a family account for multiple children (siblings) to use. An online payment option is also available. As part of the National School Lunch and Breakfast programs, the schools can offer meals free or at reduced price. Free and reduced-price meal applications are available in the school office, cafeteria, or the Nutrition Services Department. Only one application is required per family. Every district family is encouraged to complete and return an application.

Enid Public School Sports Programs

Enid Public Schools offers dozens of athletic and extracurricular opportunities for middle school and high school competitors. From sports to music, the Athletic and Activities Department offers something for every student. Before and After School Programs

Many schools offer before and after school programs. Please contact your child's school district to ask what before and after school services are provided.

The Youth Center, located in Building Bldg 336 for youth ages 6 – 12 and Bldg 332 for youth ages 13- 18, on Vance AFB, assists active duty personnel and DoD civilians by offering a safe learning environment for youths ages 6 to 18. Continuing programs include homework assistance, computer resource, job referral, community service projects, youth transition programs, social programs, sports programs, instructional classes, before-and-after school programs and summer and holiday camp programs. Dress Code

The dress code is designed for all students, with emphasis on good grooming, cleanliness, and proper dress and respect for others.  This code is an integral part of the student’s education process which tends to enhance one’s appearance and personal image at school.  A dress code that promotes a positive learning environment is the responsibility of every student and parent/guardian.  The faculty administers the dress code with the building administrator making the final decision.

Provisions of the Dress Code

Clothing should be buttoned and appropriate undergarments worn at all times. The student’s torso, chest, or undergarments should not show at any time even while sitting, bending or leaning. Necklines should be modest and appropriate. Safety and sanitation dictate that students wear appropriate footwear.  No house shoes/slippers are allowed. Mesh shirts, midriffs, halters, low riders, clothes with holes or tears in inappropriate places and other similar attire are inappropriate for school wear and will not be permitted.  Clothing displaying disruptive or suggestive lettering and/or symbols is considered inappropriate and will not be permitted.  Items advertising alcoholic beverages or drug and tobacco products will not be permitted. Hair, mustaches, beards, and make-up must be reasonable, modest, and clean. Extreme hairstyles that distract or disrupt the learning environment will not be permitted. Hats, scarves, bandanas, and sunglasses are not to be worn inside the buildings at any time. Any student wearing such in any building will be asked to give it to any employee who asks for it. It will be sent to the assistant principal. Hoods on sweatshirts or sweaters may not be worn over the head inside the buildings at any time. 

All students participating in school activities will comply with the dress and appearance regulations of activities which they belong and participate.  Any gang-related behavior, body adornment, tattoos, or clothing is prohibited; this includes, but is not limited to “sagging”, bandannas, wearing gang/set colors, written symbols, or gestures that reflect gang affiliation.

Kindergarten and Elementary School

The 4 year old program is conducted in each elementary school. Morning classes are from 8:00 - 10:45 a.m. and afternoon classes 12:15 – 3:00 p.m.  Kindergarten through grade five  class hours are from 8:00 a.m. - 3:05 p.m.

Middle School

Middle School class hours are 8:00 a.m. - 3:45 p.m.

High School

Enid High School class hours are from 7:45 – 3:45.

Student Clubs and those related to academic programs: National Honor Society (open to all those meeting the grade requirements); Delta Theta (open to advanced Math students); Astronomy Club (open to those interested in using the planetarium); Life Club (open to those interested in ecological issues - usually includes trip to Alabaster Caverns); Spanish Club (open to Spanish students - dues required); French Club (open to French students - dues required); Journalism Club (open to Journalism students); E Club (lettermen in various sports).

Vocational School

Autry Tech, Vocational Technical School has classes in half-day sessions, allowing students in grades 10, 11 and 12 to take three high school courses and attend the morning or afternoon Vo-Tech periods.  Night classes are offered also.

Special Needs Children

If your child has special education needs, the districts require an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP). Questions about OKlahoma's Special Education or Exceptional Student Services can be asked by calling 405-522-3248 or visit the OKlahoma Department of Education website. In addition to Oklahoma’s Special Education Services, the military has the Military OneSource resource for special needs assistance. Military OneSource also has free Tip Sheets, Booklets, CDs and Cassettes that you can order. In addition the department of defense offers a special needs parent toolkit on Military Homefront. Parents may decide to perform the schooling themselves in their own home or a relative, neighbor, professional tutor, or home schooling cooperative may perform the service. Parents who are considering this option should inform themselves completely about time commitments, curricula, relevant state laws, outside resources and available support groups.

Gifted/Talented Enrichment Programs

Enrichment Program (Grades 1-12)

The enrichment program has been developed to serve students in grades one through twelve who have demonstrated the potential for high levels of performance in the areas of intellectual and academic ability.

LEAP (Learning Enrichment for Advanced Primaries) (Grades 1-3)

LEAP program is the gifted/talented program serving students in grades one through three who have demonstrated the potential for high levels of performance in areas of intellectual and academic capabilities.

ACTion (Academically Talented Program) (Grades 4-6)

ACTion provides gifted/talented education as described by Oklahoma school laws and regulations.  It is a program of educational enrichment and challenge designed to meet the needs of specifically identified students.

Advanced Placement

Enid High School provides 16 Advanced Placement course options, as well as concurrent enrollment, so that students can earn college credit while still attending high school.

Alternative Education Programs

Lincoln Academy, located at 600 W. Elm, provides students who do not learn in a traditional school setting.  Students attend classes for half a day, leaving time for jobs or vocational training.

Home Schooling

Home schooling is educating children outside the public-private-parochial school establishment. Parents may decide to home school their children for a variety of reasons - religion, special needs, concern about physical conditions and danger in formal school settings, or fear of unacceptable teaching or religious curricula. School Liaison

Vance AFB School Liaison is available to assist military and civilian families with questions or issues concerning public and charter schools. As military parents of school age children are aware, there are unique challenges military children experience during transitioning to a new school. The main goals of the School Liaison are to identify barriers to academic success and develop solutions, provide parents the tools they need to overcome educational obstacles, and develop a partnership with the local school districts servicing military and civilian students. The role of the School Liaison at is to assist families ensure their children receive the best possible education regardless of where they attend school.

School Liaison Services Include:

  • Assist parents in locating schools in the local area
  • Maintain resources available to assist parents understand the policies and procedures of local school systems surrounding Vance AFB
  • Make school referrals as appropriate
  • Assist families solve educational challenges that may occur

Adult Education

The Base Education and Training Office cohabitates the same building with the Airman & Family Readiness Center and the Library and provides educational counseling and advice to military members and their families. Graduate, undergraduate, and vocational classes are available to Vance members in the local area. Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Nothern Oklahoma College, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and Autry Technology Center, are the four main institutions serving Vance AFB. Tuition Assistance is available with applicable limits as is the TOP-Up Program. The Vance Scholarship Program is another available avenue but is also available to DOD civilians, adult children or spouses of active duty personnel along with active duty military members who are not utilizing TA.

Northwestern Oklahoma State University- Enid, offers a myriad of day and evening courses leading to a bachelor's degree or a graduate degree. Programs include Accounting, Behavioral Science, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Elementary Education, Nursing and Social Work. A new and exciting program at NWOSU is E-Commerce that includes an incubator company degree. Programs from other state universities are also offered on campus. Northern Oklahoma College - Enid, is a two year community college that serves more than 900 students each semester on its scenic 120-acre campus. Students can earn Associate degrees in Business Administration, English, General Studies, Nursing-RN, Social Science, Elementary and Secondary Education, Computer Information Systems, Professional Pilot, and Airframe and Powerplant. Tuition Assistance

Two financial aid programs are available for the spouse of the active duty member. The Family Support Flight has the a scholarship search program on computer. All active/retired/DOD Civilian and family members may use this program to search for grants and scholarships, free.

The Air Force will, for eligible active duty personnel, pay up to 100% of the tuition cost under the Tuition Assistance--TA--Program. (Congress mandates that officers using TA will incur a two year ADSC (active duty service commitment), concurrent with any existing commitment. We also have the Vance Scholarship Program (VSP). Under this program, the City of Enid will: pay 50% for Active Duty NOT using TA and pay 50% for military family members and DoD civilians. (With this scenario, the student pays the other 50% as well as books and applicable fees). A new update to the VSP is that since the Air Force now pays 100% tuition, the VSP will pick up the tab, up to $100.00 per course for books. Both the Air force Tuition Assistance and Vance Scholarship programs are limited to six semester hours per term and apply to Northern Oklahoma College, Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Autry Technology Center, Embry-Riddle Vance Resident Center and the main campus of Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.
