Child Development Program

Families at Patuxent River will find an invaluable resource at the Child Development Program. Full time child care for infants six weeks to five years is available. The program has a Central Enrollment Waiting List for center-based care, child development home care and school age care (before and after school care). The list is administered through the Child Placement Office. To access the CPO website for most current fees, registration forms and availability visit the Navy CYP website.

Parent fees for military Child Development Centers, subsidized Child Development Homes and School-Age Care Programs are based on total family income (TFI). TFI is defined as "all earned income including wages, salaries, tips long-term disability benefits, voluntary salary deferrals, quarters allowances, and subsistence received by adults, married or not, sharing expenses toward the benefit of the children in residence. TFI includes pay for service in a combat zone or anything else of value, even if not taxable, that was received for providing services. Quarters allowances and subsistence allowances mean Minimum Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) and the Basic Allowance for Subsistence (BAS) received by military personnel (for grade and status) and the value of meals and lodging furnished in-kind to military personnel residing on military bases.

Child Development Home (CDH) Program

The Child Development Home program at Patuxent River offers licensed home daycare providers in the various Navy housing areas. Children in Child Development Home care are able to experience a warm, family environment in a provider's home. Thus, they can build a trusting relationship with a provider who will foster their curiosity and creativity, provide guidance and give them the hugs they need! The flexibility of rates and hours of operation are tailored to the special needs of military families. Drop-in, nights and weekend care may be available through the Child Development Home program. Personnel interested in home care must apply for care through the Child Placement Office.

School Age Care (SAC) Program

The School Age Care Program (SAC), provided for active duty, DoD civilians and DoD contrators is located at the Rassieur Youth Center and hosts a variety of organized, supervised activities. Children can engage in music, drama, arts and crafts, and outdoor sports and recreation activities. The SAC encourages self-reliance, leadership, social and safety skills through both structured and child-directed activities. Programs are available for before and after school care. The program is also affiliated with the Boys/Girls Club of America  (BGCA) and the Maryland State 4H program.

Mattapany Day Camp operates from June-August. Summer activities at camp include swimming, canoeing, fishing, arts and crafts, games, sports and field trips.
