Activities


  • There are so many activities for each and every military base that we’re asking for your help and listing them.  So please tell us what you think the next person PCSing to your location should know about activities on or off base for you and your family. 
  • 5th Services and Minot AFB offers a wide variety of activities and some of the best facilities in the Air Force.
    • J. R. Rockers is a combination Sports café and lounge. The high energy sports café offers a contemporary menu with large portions and great taste.  The recent addition of the multi-purpose room the "Top of the Rock" allows additional seating during busy times and is available for smaller functions.
    • Doolittle Center provides quality programs for club members and their guests.  A hub of activity, most special functions, holiday parties and recurring meetings are held in this conference center setting.  An innovative all ranks lunch program Monday through Friday, champagne brunch, Touch of Class; a quarterly gourmet dining experience, and Ground Zero lounge casual menu highlight the food operation. 
    • The Rough Rider Bowling Center has 22 lanes and is open to serve you 12 months a year.  Lights and Strikes remains a popular weekend program and compliment the birthday package. Kelly's Place located in the bowling center is a full service snack bar to include a breakfeast menu; the price is right any day of the week.
    • The Rough Rider Golf Course is a 9-hole course, generally open for business April through September.  During the winter months, golfers stay conditioned with the indoor golf simulator.  A limited snack bar is available for golfers on the go.
    • Rough Riders located in the Community Center is a newly renovated facility with a variety of menu options to include pizza, trendy piazza sandwiches, subs, upscale healthy signature salads and specialty coffee.
  • The Skills Development Center offers a variety of classes year round, offering customers opportunities to learn new skills from painting to framing.  The laser engraver, computerized matte cutter and embroidery machine continue to meet customer needs.
  • The Auto Skills Center offers a wide variety of knowledge and tools to meet the needs and desires of the "Do-It-Yourself Auto Mechanic" as well as some services performed by the staff. Services include brake drum and rotor machining, Snap-On diagnostics for domestic vehicles up to 1999, small engine service, snow removal of driveways, and strut and spring separation upon request.  A limited quantity of auto supplies are available, special order parts same day or next day pending part availability from town.  Three car wash bays and two commercial vacuums with Air Freshener options are available.
  • Outdoor activities are a popular way to spend your time at Minot AFB.  Outdoor Recreation provides many unique opportunities such as jet skiing, indoor archery range, archery/rifle simulator, climbing wall, snowmobiling, all-terrain vehicles, and the best selection of boat and camper rentals found anywhere in the local area.  UPS also operates out of the facility.  The operation has many community components including the indoor and outdoor pools, Fam Camp, Bud Ebert Park, RV storage lot, paintball field, vehicle resale lot, and garden plots.  A variety of items are available for rental including down hill and cross-country skis, snow blades, and ice skates to keep away the cabin fever. 
  • Treasure Island is a new indoor Fun Center with batting cages, climbing wall, mini golf and skateboard area along with a small snack bar.
  • The Community Center is the hub for activities at Minot AFB.  The center has something for everyone! Just some things the center offers is: Darbyland, an indoor playground for long winter days; meeting rooms for that special occasion; and the Common Ground room, a great place to relax and have a cup of coffee.  The Community Center is also the home of Rough Riders serving some of the best pizza, subs, specialty salads and more.  For dorm residence and young airmen the Community Center has Dorm Escapes located in the basement which provides a lounge to relax and socialize with friends, pool tables, foosball, darts, air hockey, and TV's. On the main level you will find a state of the art Cyber Café with free internet accessibility.  We also have Sony Playstation II and X-Box with a variety of games.  The Community Center is the point of contact for base-wide events such as Tops In Blue, Day of Love Thanksgiving dinner for Minot senior citizens, 4th of July base appreciation picnic, Base Wide Talent Show, Airmen and Family Game Nights, and Airmen Holiday Events.  Please feel free to contact us at 723-4670 with any suggestions for additional programs.
  • The Community Center is key to providing quality of life for the Minot Air Force Base community.  In addition to two rooms for special groups and squadron meetings, this family center includes Rough Riders, cyber café, children's Play land.  The recent upgrade project expanded the cyber café to 24 computers, created a coffee lounge, and merged the sub to the pizza operation.  With a focus on airmen, the staff provides recreational activities called "Dorm Escapes".  This program targets 18 to 21 year old dorm residents.  Activities include Christmas Eve party, Easter Egg money hunt, pool tournaments, table tennis club, performing arts, and LAN parties.  The Cyber Café is primarily for airmen and spouses of deployed personnel.  All computers have internet capabilities and provide dorm residents a comfortable place to "surf the net".  Recent additions to the Cyber Café include 12 additional computers, Video games, an X-Box, Nintendo Game Cube, and two Sony Play Stations.  The Cyber Café has no service charge for use, making this a very popular program.  A Talent Show held at the base theater in December entertained over 250 guests who thoroughly enjoyed 14 performers.
  • The Base Library supports the mission of the Minot AFB by purchasing mission essential books, subscriptions, and databases for offices.  The library also offers a wide range of databases through our web site.  Whether you would like to read the Air Force Times online, learn another language through Rosetta Stone, or chat with an online Reference Librarian, the Base Library can meet your needs.  Also, do not forget the library when it comes to your professional development.  The library offers items from the Chief of Staff Reading List, and support Professional Military Education.  If education is your interest, you will find CLEP and DANTES study material in book and video format within our walls. The library provides print material and online databases to assist you in writing papers or completing projects.  A study room is available, as well as library instruction.  Whether you are in grade school or graduate school, the library can help.  If you are looking for relaxation or entertainment, the Base Library is a great place to come.  They have all of the Best Sellers in book and audio format.  In addition, the library has movies, music CD's, a teen section, and plenty of children's materials.  It also hosts a computer lab and wireless Internet.  Fax and copier services are available.  The Base Library has great programs, too!  The facility features programs for kids, teens, and adults.  Contact the Base Library at 723-3344 for details on upcoming events.   
  • The Youth Center is the largest in the Air Force. They offer activities before and after school, both summer and winter day camps with every thing from life skills courses to weekly field trips.  The Teen Center offers a wide variety of activities including a Power-Up computer lab with internet capability, YES program for college dollars, Boys and Girls Club leadership programs, and the Congressional Award Program.  Open recreation provides a wide range of self directed activities such as, board games, wide screen T.V., table games, and computer lab with internet capability and Video games.  A highly successful sports program features leagues for all ages.  Wee Sports is offered to our youngest members.  Also popular are lock-ins, Fantastic Fridays, the inflatable splat wall, bouncy castle, and sticky challenge.
  • Minot is a very diverse city enriched with years of culture.  There is a city zoo, theater groups, choral groups, symphony orchestra, sporting events, stock car races, drag races, city parks with weekly events during the summer, and Festivals and other major events throughout the year.  The Minot area Chamber of Commerce and the Convention and Visitors Bureau each maintain a comprehensive web page on all the current activities in Minot.  We also invite you to "Discover the Spirit" in North Dakota.  From the flat, rich farmlands of the Red River Valley, to the historic cow town, Medora, at the foothills of the North Dakota Badlands, from the ski slopes of the Turtle Mountains to the shores of the Missouri River and Lake Sakakawea.  With 17 state parks, a national park and national historic sites.  North Dakota and the Minot area is rich in history.
