Check-in Procedures

Travel Planning

A successful move is not a matter of chance. It is the result of planning and hard work. Your new command may assign you a sponsor from whom you should hear some weeks in advance of your reporting date. A sponsor can often provide information helpful to you in arranging a smooth move. Contact your new command if you have not heard from your sponsor within a reasonable time frame.

Be sure to plan your travel well in advance. Lodging at NS Mayport is often full so the sooner you make your reservation the better. You can reach the Navy Lodge on base at 904-247-3964. The Navy Lodge does not accept pets.  Sailors and their families often find suitable housing within 3-5 days in the Mayport area. Plan accordingly and refer to the Housing-Temporary article for contact information.

Reporting Procedures

Naval Station personnel checking in during the work day should report to the quarterdeck, Bldg. 1. Personnel checking in on the weekend should report to the quarterdeck. Personnel reporting to tenant commands should report to that command. Personnel ordered to a ship should report directly to their ship if in port. If the ship is not in, check in with the Naval Station Quarterdeck for assistance, phone 904-270-5401.

Personnel should be in the uniform of the day. Summer uniforms are worn from the first Monday in March and are khaki for chiefs and officers and summer whites for E-6 and below. Winter uniforms are worn from the first Monday in December and are khaki for chiefs and officers and winter blues for E-6 and below. Enlisted personnel on PCS or TAD orders should check in at the quarterdeck before checking into the BEQ. Officers may check into the BOQ prior to checking in with their commands. Personnel are required to check in with Housing before renting a house or an apartment.

What to do if you Get Married Enroute

If you get married before you PCS, you must inform your commander and follow the procedures exactly as you are given them. The military will not pay for travel and housing of your spouse if you do not follow proper procedures.

Orientation

All active duty personnel assigned to Naval Station Mayport must attend a mandatory four-day orientation. Spouses are welcome to attend, and an orientation for spouses (Military Spouse 101) is conducted quarterly by Fleet and Family Support Center. Contact the Fleet and Family Support Center, 904-270-6600, for more information.
